My recent Root Canal treatment at Bere Regis Dental Practice was very positive, leaving me feeling genuinely pleased with the experience. The procedure was completely pain-free from start to finish! Corina and Aneta were not only professional, but also kind and reassuring throughout the entire process. While I experienced slight tenderness on the first day as expected, I'm pleased to report that four days post-procedure, I've encountered minimal to no pain during recovery. Thank you Corina and Aneta.

Root canal treatment (also called endodontics) is not a 100% guaranteed treatment but has a very high success rate of 93%. It is needed when the pulp inside your tooth becomes infected. This infection may spread through the root canal system and could eventually lead to an abscess, causing a great deal of discomfort. If root canal treatment is not carried out, the tooth may need to be taken out.

Root canal therapy involves the following:
  1. First, local anaesthetic will be administered to ensure no discomfort is felt during treatment.
  2. The tooth will be prepared with a drill, allowing access to the root canal system.
  3. The root canal system will be thoroughly cleaned out to remove all infection and pulp.
  4. The tooth is then filled and covered temporarily with a crown.
  5. The back teeth are recommended to be covered with a crown to protect the tooth against splitting.

If the root is not infected, the treatment is usually finished in one treatment, if there is an infection then there might be more visits.

Life Benefits

Preservation of remaining healthy tooth structure.

Prevention of infection spreading any further.

FAQs

Root canal therapy is necessary when the pulp, the soft tissue inside the tooth, becomes infected or damaged. This can happen due to untreated cavities, cracked or chipped teeth, or trauma to the tooth. If left untreated, the infection can spread to the surrounding tissues and cause severe pain, abscesses, and even tooth loss.

Some common signs that you may need a root canal include severe toothache, sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures, swelling and tenderness around the tooth, darkening of the tooth, and a recurring pimple on the gums. However, only a dentist can determine if a root canal is necessary after conducting a thorough examination.

Contrary to popular belief, root canal therapy is not as painful as people think. Some of our patients fall asleep in the dental chair during the procedure. With modern advancements in dental technology and anaesthesia, the procedure is relatively painless. Most patients report feeling minimal discomfort during and after the procedure. Your dentist will also prescribe medication to alleviate any post-operative pain or discomfort.
